Programs
SCHOOL VISITS ARE IDEALLY DIVIDED INTO MULTIPLE SESSIONS WITH GROUP SIZES OF AROUND 60-70 STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM TRANSLATES BETTER TO THESE SMALLER GROUPS AND THE VISUAL MATERIALS ARE SHARED MORE EFFECTIVELY IN THIS MANNER. i WORK WITH SCHOOLS TO ARRANGE AS MANY SESSIONS IN A VISIT AS POSSIBLE TO ACCOMMODATE ALL GRADES MAKING MYSELF AVAILABLE FOR A SINGLE VISIT, A HALF DAY VISIT AND ALSO FULL DAY OR MULTIPLE DAY VISITS!
Toddler-2nd grade
A brief telling of the story behind the story of Too Much Glue that includes singing, group participation and lots of fun along the way. All children learn an age appropriate version of the publishing process as well. Finally the audience is invited to join in an energetic reading of the actual book! Programs for this age group last approximately 20-40 minutes depending on specific ages.
3rd-5th grade
As with the younger groups, this presentation includes a description of the crazy events that inspired the writing of Too Much Glue, but goes on to explore the publishing process more closely. Discussion includes the editing process and the use of basic literary devices that can make a story seemingly jump off the page. This presentation concludes with a close but fun reading of the story and a brief question and answer period and runs from 45 minutes to one hour.
6th grade and beyond
While encompassing much of the same humor of the younger programs, this presentation will delve deeper into the craft of writing, publication and the business side of creative writing. There is more time given to open discussion and a question and answer period. Older programs may run an hour or longer given the specific age of the audience. I work closely with school staff to tailor the program to fit their basic needs so that the material covered is exactly what they are looking for.
